Business Controller (fulltime)

The organisation

WEC Lines is a dynamic medium-sized maritime transport organisation specialising in container transport. With +50 years of experience, our services mainly concentrate on Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Spain (incl. the Canary Islands), the UK, Ireland, Morocco, North and East Africa and the Red Sea.

For our head office in Rotterdam, we are looking for a Business Controller (full-time).

About the role

WEC Lines is a subsidiary of the world’s largest container shipping company, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), and is undergoing rapid development. The Finance department is actively involved in this and is looking to further expand business control, a position that has existed within WEC Lines since last year.

As a Business Controller, you will be the right-hand person of the Senior Business Controller and play a crucial role in the further professionalisation of Finance, the development and automation of reports, analyses and dashboards to support financial and operational decision-making, and increasing financial awareness within all layers of the organisation. You will work closely with colleagues from Finance, Line Management, Operations, Capacity and Process Development, among others.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Financial and operational reporting and monitoring of the performance of the various deep sea and short sea services, in close collaboration with the responsible Line Managers;
  • Developing and preparing financial (monthly) reports and dashboards for internal management and decision-making and for periodic external accountability to Senior Management of parent company MSC;
  • Preparing, monitoring and controlling financial budgets, forecasts and financial KPIs;
  • Preparing financial calculation models and business cases to support operational decision-making;
  • Playing an active role in accelerating and improving the monthly financial closing process.

What you bring

  • University degree and thinking level with a completed master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the shipping/maritime sector.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and financial software packages, such as ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Good command of Dutch and English.
  • Competencies: proactive, enterprising, communicative flexibility, analytical, accurate, relationship management.
  • Experience with MS PowerBI is an advantage.
