Portugal strike

The Portuguese ports have been affected by a Port Authority Administration Officials strike, causing major disruptions in these ports, and affecting WEC Lines’ schedules.

Between October 23rd and November 7th, the Portuguese Port Authority administration officials have announced national strikes against the national government for failure to apply previous renumeration agreements.

This strike is disrupting marine traffic to and from all Portuguese ports being Lisbon, Sines, Leixoes, Figueira Da Foz and Setúbal with vessel and schedule delays as a result. In addition, all services compliant with port activity may be compromised as well and we expect port congestions during and after the below-mentioned periods.

Current situation

  • The 1st period started at 00:00 today and will last up until 24:00 on 24 October, 2025.
  • Operations in the ports of Leixoes and Sines are impacted by this strike as both ports are closed today. For WEC Lines there is no direct impact as we are not calling these ports today or tomorrow.
  • The port of Setubal is still open despite the strike, which will mean that the MUKSUND, EL542 (UK/IE-PT) will be entering Setubal today, 23-10-2025.
  • WEC BOUWMEESTER, EB542 (MOPT) is also still expected to call Setubal on 24-10-2025.
  • The situation remains hard to predict and may be up for changes still.
