As from January 31, 2025, all European Union (EU) imports into the United Kingdom will require a Safety & Security Declaration, also known as the Entry Summary Declaration (ENS).
What is it?
A safety and security declaration (also known as an SSD or S&S declaration) will bring important information to support the fight against prohibited goods such as drugs and weapons entering the UK. These declarations are used by UK border authorities to analyse the potential risk of goods crossing their border. Legitimate goods will pass the border without unnecessary delay.
It is not about the duties and taxes. Those who export from the UK to the EU or import into the UK from countries outside of the EU, are already required to submit declarations.
How do we assist?
If we are transporting your container(s) on one of our vessels, we are responsible for handling the declaration on your behalf.
Our operational systems have been updated and tested over the past months to ensure a smooth transition in compliance to these new regulations. Since you are already providing the required information with every new booking, our current way of working will remain the same. Throughout the year requirements may change, however, and additional information may be required from you. If so, we will make sure to inform you as soon as UK border authorities release such communications.
